Mode Of Address - The Language Of Music Journalism

What is mode of address?

Mode of address is the language used in magazines. For example magazines can be informal or formal, this is normally decided by the target audience of the magazine. Not only does mode of address decide whether a piece of text is informal or formal, so does the use of colloquial or explicit language. This is normally decided through the genre of the music presented in the music magazine or the type of tone the writer wants to achieve.

Below I have looked at two different genres of music magazine and looked at both their modes of address:
